Statement from the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Planning in response to comments regarding the management of public debt

The Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning of the Republic of Senegal has taken note of a press article published on June 22, 2026, reporting remarks made by the Minister of Industry and Trade during a televised interview concerning the management of public debt.

The Ministry wishes to clarify that these remarks merely reflect personal views and should not be construed as representing the official position of the Government of Senegal.

In this regard, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning reiterates that it is the sole official channel for communication on matters relating to public finances, sovereign debt, and relations with international financial partners.

The Ministry further reaffirms that the Republic of Senegal remains fully committed to honoring all of its financial obligations and to the timely and orderly fulfillment of its commitments towards its creditors, development partners, and investors.
