Celebration of International Customs Day 2026 (ICD): "customs protecting society through vigilance and commitment"

Under the auspices of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), the Directorate General of Customs (DGD) celebrated International Customs Day (ICD) on Monday, 26 January 2026. The ceremony was presided over by Mr Cheikh DIBA, Minister of Finance and Budget, in the presence of Mr Babacar MBAYE, Director General of Customs, former Directors General of Senegalese Customs, administrative authorities, the Defence and Security Forces, and institutional partners.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Finance and Budget placed this Day within the overall dynamic of optimising public policies, particularly with regard to the mobilisation of internal resources. In this regard, he praised the performance of Customs in 2025, particularly in terms of revenue collection, which amounted to approximately 1,286 billion CFA francs, reflecting the positive impact of the reforms undertaken.

For his part, the Director General of Customs recalled the central role of the customs administration in securing trade and protecting society. He stressed the importance of modern action based on intelligence, analysis, risk management and consultation with all stakeholders.

On this occasion, WCO certificates of merit were presented to customs officers in recognition of their commitment and professionalism. The formal ceremony concluded with a tour and the inauguration of new strategic customs buildings, named after former Directors General in tribute to their loyal service to the nation.
