MEFP Press Café: an unprecedented format to unpack Senegal's new economic and financial trajectory
For the first time, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning brought together, around the same table, its principal Directors-General and journalists from the specialised economic press, for a "Press Café" devoted to Senegal's new economic and financial trajectory.
For over two hours, journalists engaged directly with the Directors-General responsible for Public Accounting and the Treasury, the Budget, Customs, Taxes and Public Property, Financing and Debt, Planning and Economic Policy, the financial sector, and Private Sector Development. An unprecedented configuration, bringing together around a single subject all the expertise needed to shed light, in every dimension, on the country's new economic and financial course.
The discussions, direct and in-depth, focused notably on Senegal's new economic and financial trajectory, as well as on the Senegal Debt Treatment Plan (PTDS).
The meeting stood out for:
a less formal format, fostering direct and in-depth dialogue;
the provision to journalists of reliable, precise and well-documented information;
a cross-cutting reading of the main issues relating to revenue, public spending, financing, debt, planning, the financial sector and private sector development, in coordination with partners.
Held in the presence of Mr Aliou NDIAYE, Secretary-General of the MEFP, and Mr Amadou Abdoulaye BADIANE, Director of Cabinet, this first Press Café reflects the Ministry's commitment to strengthening transparency and public understanding around Senegal's economic and financial choices, while bringing public information closer to citizens.
The Ministry intends to establish this dialogue with the media over the long term, in order to foster a clearer and deeper understanding of the reforms under way and their implementation.
One subject. All the expertise around the table. A direct, no-detour dialogue to better understand the full implications of this major turning point in the country's economic and financial history.
